Photography experiements

Solarized image created in the darkroom.
I do believe that this- as well as photo montage- is the direction that I want to continue on in in photography.

New painting

A painting that I have been working on slowly over the past few weeks. Right now I am dissatisfied with it, so it will most likely be changed before it is completely finished.

Am working on new stuffed sculptures...
one big shrimp baby monster,
one medium cat- thing.

This is a sculpture I created several months ago, fondly titled "Horse Fetus" but formally an "Untitled" piece. It was created from a pillow, yarn, super sculpey, all of which I sewed together by hand. The piece was created from my desire to give create a wanderer in dreamlands, to make the traveller that one often sees besides oneself in ones personal dreamlands. This specific traveller is a guidepost, but is not fully mature- the start of a series of dreams, perhaps.

My favorite photomontage that I created in the darkroom... this is old, from about 4 or 5 months ago. Titled "The Newest Threat".

Pen and ink.

But did I want to take fibers, sculpture, or photography as my elective next year? Hmmm.

Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Christina, and I am a severely recent graduate of the Suitland High School's Visual and Performing Arts Center. I will be attending the Maryland Institute College of Art in the fall. Over the summer I am interning at an arts commision as well as working to improve my portfolio. My artwork is based off of sleepy messages, images blurred through a lack or need for rest, subconcious desires and visions, landmarks in the mind, human beast forms and the unknown factor in dreams.

My artwork is not meant to represent anything specifically, but rather encourage the viewer to feel as if they have brushed up against their own or anothers period of physical rest and mental exploration. I want to give a sense of deja vu to the unexpecting passerby.

Through my training as an artist, I have been taught advanced photography, from which I create images manipulated in the darkroom, as well as sculpture, where I work in softer materials such as fabric and paper as well as traditional sculpture materials. I have also been taught advanced printmaking techniques such as the etching, linocut, and monotype processes.

Lately I have been expierementing in drawing and painting on my own time, trying to establish a foothold in those more traditional areas of artmaking.

I have a large portfolio of work but I feel that is not connected enough. Therefore I will post new works as they come about, and will post old works as I feel fit.

A more cohesive artists statement will be posted shortly.
